Analyzing The Deeper Meaning Of What I Did

Politics play one of the most important roles in our society. Without a political system the United States would be in complete and utter chaos. Politics is defined as “…the process and method of decision making for groups of human beings.” The key part of that definition is “decision.” It is our responsibility as citizens to keep ourselves well involved with our own local politics. However, due to the fast-paced lifestyle of the 21st century, most people have not been able to keep up with the political happenings in our nation. This scary fact was outlined in a research poll done before the 2000 election. “The poll showed that 56 percent of Americans could not name a single Democratic candidate for president. Things weren't better for the Republicans: Only 63 percent could recall the name ‘Bush.’” The fact that a majority of Americans could not even name a Democratic candidate is something that no one should have to deal with.
My civic duty was to help the people of our community further understand their local politics. Putting on a political panel for my town was the least that I could have done to help my country. Politics has taken the back seat against pop culture and celebrities. This sort of behavior is not conducive to a productive society. We cannot pay attention too the lives of others when people around us are just as important. Ideolizing the rich makes for a terrible life, leaving you forever wanting what they have and turning into a monster for greed. Politics help give you the ability to change your life now, give you reason, and help you generally make the world a better place. Complaining about current events is not the way to solve them, one needs to take up the responsibility to go out and change the world yourself, something that I have attempted to do by organizing this political panel with the Politico Club at Boulder Creek High School. Helping bring the candidates to a public forum gives the citizens an opportunity to have a personal conversation with the candidates.
Bringing the campaign on a more personal level benefits both the voter and the candidate. The candidate gets the opportunity to perhaps secure a vote, where as the voter is given the opportunity to get an insider story on the candidate, develop an opinion about them, and keep the political process flowing. Politics needs to be on the forefront of every Americans mind. We need the political system to keep not only our country functioning properly and efficiently, but to keep the entire world from collapsing upon itself. America is considered one of the superpowers of the world, it’s about time we started acting like one. Keeping yourself informed is not a very difficult thing to do, but it is difficult to bring yourself to do it. With the internet, there have become easier and easier ways to keep yourself involved in local, national, and global politics, all that is needed is the actual drive to become a more informed voter. Political participation is at a low right now in this country and I hope to bring politics back into the homes of America. Having a well informed America is the first step to getting back on track with the economy. If the people are more informed on the issues they will be able to make the best choice of a candidate who will be able to protect their best interests and help right our ship. The political panel seemed to be the most direct and easiest opportunity I had to making politics more important in everyday life, and I hope it will not soon be my last.
